Thomas has an idea. You can get from the Public WLAN to the Internet, but not to the other networks for instance. I now have four networks on my router: Internet, LAN, WLAN and Public WLAN. The main reason for that is that I was running out of ports on my switch, but it also gives me the benefit of being able to better control what you can do from there. I also put the access point on its own network. :-) Most importantly however, the MacBook has not dropped out today. I don't know what these numbers in iStumbler mean, but higher numbers are better. With its bigger antennas, reception on my MacBook went from 48 to 55. Swapping the gear brought an instantaneous power boost. I'd prefer small switching power supplies instead of transformers. The only thing I don't like are their big power supplies. by Volker WeberĪs a cure to my MacBook WLAN dropouts I replaced the Linksys access point (actually a router with AP) with a Netgear WG302. As long as you're only connecting to one device and have no need for mouse support, you don't even have to pay anything. ![]() This is a great app for users who are tired of typing on touchscreen keyboards, as well as those who would like to have a mouse cursor on their mobile devices. WRITEROOM LAG BLUETOOTHThis is only done while KeyPad is active, so enabling and disabling the app is akin to turning a Bluetooth device on and off. WRITEROOM LAG TVWhen your Mac is connected to a phone, tablet, or TV via this app, it is seen as an actual keyboard or mouse, and input can be transmitted. KeyPad gets around this issue by emulating a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. Normally, you would need to pair your mobile device with an actual Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, as the ones connected to your Mac can't send input directly to your phone. Simply press ⌃⌥ (Control+Option) to enable the cursor on the device you're connected to, then use the same key combination again to turn it off. Now with mouse supportĪs if using a keyboard to type on mobile devices wasn't cool enough, you can now also control them using a regular mouse. I didn't notice any lag, and it's definitely a considerable improvement over the touchscreen keyboard. ![]() All key presses will now be sent to the connected device, allowing you to type much more smoothly. If everything has gone smoothly, you should see a window on your desktop that informs you the app is active. Once that is done, enable KeyPad either from your menu bar or using the ⌥⌘P hotkey. Make sure you initiate the connection from the mobile device, as the app will not detect it otherwise. ![]() Before anything else, you need to configure Bluetooth on your Mac and mobile device and pair them. Use your Mac's keyboard to type on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV Moreover, it even lets you use a regular mouse on your mobile devices. Of course, you can just get a Bluetooth keyboard, but what if you want to use a wired device, or one that is currently paired with your Mac? Well, it's a good thing you asked, because KeyPad lets you do just that. I dread having to use a touchscreen for typing, and I always wish I could just plug in a keyboard and get it done the old-fashioned way. Over the years, I've encountered people who are so proficient with touchscreen keyboards that typing on their phones barely slows them down. ![]()
